DG-VRA: Variable Rate Application ECU for Manure Spreaders

DG-VRA is Dinamica Generale’s ISOBUS ECU for variable rate manure application, designed to transform spreading operations into a precise, automated and data-driven process.

By combining real-time weight data from load cells with machine control, DG-VRA adjusts the distribution rate dynamically, ensuring optimal nutrient application across the field.

Precision manure spreading with ISOBUS control

Accurate manure application is essential to reduce input costs, improve nutrient efficiency, and comply with environmental regulations. DG-VRA provides a complete control system for variable rate manure spreading, ensuring that the applied rate matches the target value in real time.

Thanks to ISOBUS integration, tractor speed is acquired directly from the vehicle and used to continuously adjust the spreading process.

Real weight-based variable rate control

DG-VRA controls the application rate using real-time load cell data combined with internal belt speed (PWM) regulation.

ISOBUS connectivity

DG-VRA regulates application in AUTO mode based on target rate, while also allowing MAN mode with direct operator control of chain speed through PWM. During work, the operator can adjust the target rate at any time for greater flexibility in the field.

System architecture and connectivity

DG-VRA features a modular architecture designed for seamless integration on manure spreaders, combining multiple inputs and outputs for precise control of the spreading process. The ECU connects directly to load cells for real-time weight measurement, ensuring accurate mass-based application. Additional inputs include chain speed (RPM) and belt control (PWM), enabling closed-loop regulation of the internal conveyor system.

The system supports CAN communication for integration with ISOBUS networks and external devices, while optional sensors such as an inclinometer improve accuracy in uneven field conditions. Power supply and dedicated connectors are designed for reliable operation in demanding agricultural environments.

This architecture allows DG-VRA to operate as a central control unit, managing data acquisition, machine control, and communication within a complete precision farming ecosystem.
